A challenge is issued herein
To: The Right Honble. The Count of Markwick
From: The Right Honble. Lord York
November 23, 1809
Do not confuse your recent revelation and elevation as carte blanche to act without dignity or honour. It pained more hearts than just my own to witness today the pain of Lady Markwick, who is widely known as far too good and lovely a woman than to deserve infidelity and cruel untruths from her husband. I declare you a cad, Markwick, and the worst sort given her tender and blessed condition. In defense of her honour and good name I challenge you to a duel tomorrow at dawn in the woods between Tyrehampton and Oakston. If there remains yet any morsel of regard within your heart you will reply with your choice of sabers or pistols.
Your Obdt St.,
