Miss Honor Clare
Miss Clare's existence is something of a scandal. Her father is a well-to-do London businessman of some wealth but no title, and her mother was a maid in his employ. Honor came into being as a result of an illicit affair between them, and was brought up by her paternal grandmother out of the goodness of the old woman's heart.
In spite of-- or perhaps because of-- her origins, Honor is a young woman who defies convention. As a girl, she was a terror, running her nurses ragged as she dragged them along on adventures through the city. When her grandmother sent her off to boarding school, there was scarcely a day that Honor did not find herself in some sort of trouble. Now grown, Honor seems to have mellowed somewhat, but even that illusion is shattered upon inspection. She flirts with the help and drinks gin with her aging mother. She gravitates towards thoroughly dreadful and morbid literature, and has even penned a handful of similar gory tales herself. There are even a few that claim that Honor is mad, and that at night she spends the nights pacing in her rooms and muttering to herself.
Perhaps the country will soothe her tempestuous nature. Perhaps, away from the chaos of the city, she will find some sort of peace. She is certainly out of her element, far from her family and friends. Maybe, surrounded by more appropriate company, Honor will morph into someone who better suits her name.
